More recently, my network of virtual assistant friends have been getting questions from potential clients about international vs. U.S.-based virtual assistants. The ultimate question is, "Why would I go with you when an international virtual assistant is cheaper?" As we continue to learn, "cheaper does not always mean better."

Here are a few reasons why hiring U.S.-based virtual assistants might be beneficial:
1. They align with US time zones - Being in the middle of the United States means that I can relatively effectively serve clients from coast to coast. I can chat with my clients when it's convenient for both of us, respond to emails in real time, and keep up with daily requests.
2. They contribute to the US economy - I pay property taxes and self-employment taxes in the United States. I also make purchases here, which contributes to sales taxes and supporting local businesses.
3. They have a better cultural understanding of U.S. operations - I understand that Americans are direct, efficient, and task-oriented, so I'm able to more effectively communicate with my clients to get things done to their liking.
4. They can do a wider variety of tasks - Many international virtual assistants are focused on one type of task. I've been able to plan a birthday party, purchase gifts, plan trips, analyze data, send invoices, track expenses, and so much more!
5. They have native-level English skills - This means there is less chance of confusion in communication both with my clients as well as the people they interact with.
6. They generally provide higher quality output - This has to do with several of the previously mentioned reasons. I'm more likely to understand a task and its cultural nuances, ask pointed questions, and have quicker turnaround time. I comprehend my clients' level of expectation as well as their urgency.
Note that these are generalized statements. Some international virtual assistants are wonderful with great English skills and the ability to do a wide variety of tasks! Similarly, not every U.S.-based assistant is efficient or capable. You have to find the right virtual assistant for you!
